This past weekend was pretty fun for my 25th birthday, my family went to one of our favorite spots, Lancaster, PA. It's always nice to get away from loud New York once in a while. While we were there, I spotted a rather large gathering of huge birds in the trees. I grabbed my 70-300 and zoomed... I couldn't believe my eyes! Bald Eagles, eight of them perching in a tree. This sort of thing rarely ever happens to me, so I grabbed my camera and snapped a few shots of them. I'm not a huge fan of how the pictures came out because I was so far off, they are basically just silhouettes of the birds, but it was nice to see them in general. Hopefully next time they are a bit closer, I'd like that very much!

Christmas by the Lake.
Saturday was an unusually warm day for the middle of December. And so we set out for a shoot at Belmont State Park. The sun was in a perfect spot in the sky and the leaves were just the right color. The two girls were so cooperative, they made the shoot so much fun. Even the parents jumped in so I could get a good family style photo for Christmas. I brought the whole team with me, and we all had a great time. It was a good experience and I'll have a picture to post in a few days.

Nice Big Smile
Over the weekend I had a mini shoot, it was supposed to be a Christmas shoot for the family's Christmas card, but certain things happened and I ended up only taking pictures of one sibling, but it was still fun. She had the prettiest smile and she was definitely photogenic. I got a few candids of her sister as well, even though she didn't want her picture taken, I still got her to smile in some fun pictures running around the yard. We took out the Photo Booth stuff, and well, take a look for yourself.
I just have to work on depth of field again and background coloring and whatnot.

Mama Mia!
Today I was fortunate enough to take part in a Christmas photo shoot. The little girl I had in my lens was the most adorable kid I've ever seen, with the most adorable smile. She was so ready for me to take her photograph, she kept on saying "cheese" even before we started. We set up a small Christmas scene with light up trees and a snowman, while her mother had a big red sled. It was a great shoot and I'm really excited to show you how they came out. Here's a preview of Mia.

The Bucks of Autumn.
Yesterday I set out on an adventure, into the woods and through the swamps. I knew as soon as I got to the swamp area, that I should have worn my boots because it was crazy muddy. Luckily the care taker put a few long logs down for people to walk on. I think I was the only one walking those trails though, I didn't see any foot prints or signs of people. I did see a few nice birds, sadly they didn't want their picture's taken. But I did stumble on a few deer, and one friendly buck, who came right up to me, unfortunately I didn't have any food for him. He did let me take his photograph those. He posed for a few, but this one was the best.
After that, I set my sights for sandier trails, and found a treasure trove of animal bones. I know I'm not supposed to take them, but I just couldn't resist. One doesn't stumble upon a baby fox skull everyday and the completely whole shell of a turtle. They are treasures that have been deemed "the find of the year" by my friend Dan. It was quite the adventure, and one of the most productive Saturday's I've had in a while. I'm blessed beyond to live on such an Island that has all these special spots.

Military Timeline
This weekend I went to Bethpage Restoration to shoot the Museum of American Armor. It was definitely a great weekend and I suggest if you have the time, you should definitely go visit it's rich in history. And if you stick around till it's over, just drive up the road and you'll be able to visit the Restoration. It's a lot of fun for the family and there's a lot of photo opportunities.

Artsy Photography
Whenever I get bored, like really bored I shoot pointless junk. I usually try my hardest on a photo that ends up bad. But this time, it actually came out pretty good. It's very artsy if I do say so myself.
Sickness and Family Shoot
So last week I got sick, but that didn't stop me. after a few days of soup and vitamins I was back to normal. Just in time for my first Fall Family shoot. It went well, the kids didn't sit still, but that was fun. Lots and lots of fun, I could use some running around. The day was nice, a bit windy and it was a bit chilly out.

Courtney's Long Island Bridal Shower
So yesterday I shot my neighbor's fiancé's Bridal Shower. It was a lot of fun, and it was my first official photo-gig. I shot in total, about 400 photo's. Even though the sun was hiding behind some grey clouds, most of them came out pretty nice, actually, only 150 didn't come out good to be exact. It was a good experience and was great to shoot in the environment.
I hope everyone had a good weekend as well.

Light of Day.
Not forgetting these few shots I took in the day time while I was gone. I took most of these around sunset and after sunset. I really enjoy the sunsets in different states as opposed to my own state for some reason.
Every once in a while you stumble on some kind of gold hidden in the hills. For the past 3 years I've tried my absolute hardest to get pictures of Thomas the Tank Engine, and every year I fail, but not this year. I caught him right as he was coming down the tracks. I even managed to get Percy as well.

Pennsylvania Stars
This past weekend I was enjoying some R&R in Lancaster, Pa, it never fails. When you go outside and look up, all you see are stars and they are so bright, brighter than they are here on the Island. I took my camera out and here is what I came up with.
Here the BIG Dipper is shown, clear as day. Perfect!
Above is Cassiopeia. And Below we have Sagittarius off to the left by the pole, and Mars and Saturn in the middle of the photograph.

Lightning!
I've been waiting for a good storm for a very long time. Since the last lightning strikes I caught somehow got deleted. So I set up my camera and my Gopro Hero 3. Check it out the result, pretty cool huh?

Today was way too cloudy for any decent pictures to be taken, but, that didn't stop the two happy little deer fawns I saw frolicking under trees. It was great actually seeing deer in Heckscher State Park today, I went out there three days ago, and saw seven deer. It's been a while since I've seen any deer out and about in that park, because of so many people walking their dogs around. Anyway, go out and adventure, it's a great day for a hike.

So last Saturday I tweeted that I was at the Highland games, and I just thought that I would share a few pictures I took while I was there. It was really fun and I do encourage you to go next year, because it was a great way to spend a day just reliving the old Scottish ways and learning about their traditions.

Super Duper Moon
So last night was the 2nd official "Super Duper Moon", I thought I'd take my camera out and take a few pictures of it. At first, I wanted to venture to Brookwood Hall in East Islip to take pictures there, but alas, there was a Park Ranger sitting by the entrance watching for people. He said I wasn't allowed in, but after looking around I noticed that I wouldn't have a clear view of the moon anyway so no big deal. He told me that I might have better luck going down to the Maple Ave. docks in Islip to shoot. I went down there, and while I was setting up I saw a little fox who seemed curious and friendly. So while I set up my tripod and camera I had company as he came over and sat next to my truck. He wasn't scared of me at all; he stuck around for a good 10 minutes. I tried to get a picture with my phone, but once he saw the light he bolted away. I took a few decent pictures of the Super Moon, but by the time I was actually able to shoot, the moon had already risen high in the night sky and was being hidden by the clouds. Upon arriving home, I jumped in the pool to cool off from the heat and just floating and staring up in the night sky, I was able to see a few faint shooting stars; the beginnings of the Perseid Shower! I'll be doing my best to get shots of those this week and I am hoping that in the future, I will have better luck shooting the moon and little friendly foxes in my travels.
Have a great day friends,
Zach
